Sheer Lace Maxi Skirt
We designed the open edit sheer lace maxi skirt for those moments when you want romance and edge in equal measure. The outer layer is crafted from French-inspired floral lace that falls to a maxi length, while a coordinating midi slip sits underneath for coverage exactly where you want it. The sheer lace overlay reveals just a hint of skin below the slip hem, creating a striking silhouette that works for evening events or elevated daytime looks.

The floral lace we chose for this skirt is woven with a mid-weight hand that holds its shape beautifully without feeling stiff. Each bloom and vine in the pattern is defined by raised thread work that catches light from every angle. We specifically selected a lace with enough body to drape cleanly from the waist rather than cling.

Sizing & fit guidance
This skirt is designed to sit at your natural waist with a relaxed, straight silhouette through the hips and legs. The elasticized waistband stretches comfortably to accommodate a range of measurements within each size, so we recommend ordering your usual size for a true fit.
If you’re between sizes or prefer a slightly looser drape, size up one increment. The lace overlay is generous enough that it won’t pull or gap even if you size up. For reference, our fit model is 5’8″ and wears a size small with the midi slip hitting just below her knee and the lace hem grazing her ankles.

Styling versatility
We love this skirt for its ability to shift moods depending on what you pair it with. For daytime, try a tucked cotton tee and low-top sneakers — the lace reads casual and effortless rather than overly precious. Add a structured blazer and pointed-toe flats for the office, or swap in a silk camisole and heeled mules for dinner.
Evening styling is where the skirt truly shines. A fitted black bodysuit lets the lace take center stage, while a cropped knit adds cozy contrast in cooler months. Layering different textures against the delicate lace creates visual interest without competing for attention. Many of our customers build entire capsule wardrobes around statement bottoms; the same approach that makes a sheer mesh midi skirt a foundation piece applies here, where one standout skirt unlocks dozens of outfit combinations by simply changing the top and shoes.

Common questions about the sheer lace maxi skirt
The lace overlay is sheer, but the skirt includes a coordinating midi-length slip sewn into the waistband that provides full coverage from waist to knee. Only the lace extends below the slip hem, creating a sheer panel at the lower leg. You’ll see a hint of skin between the slip and the maxi hem, but nothing above the knee is see-through.
Yes, the skirt is machine washable on a delicate cycle. We recommend placing it in a mesh laundry bag to protect the lace and using cold water with a gentle detergent. Skip bleach and fabric softener. After washing, lay the skirt flat to dry rather than hanging it wet, which can stretch the elastic waistband over time.
The skirt runs true to size with an elasticized waistband that offers some flexibility. If you’re between sizes or prefer a looser fit through the hips, we suggest sizing up one increment. The lace overlay is cut generously, so sizing up won’t cause gaping or pulling at the waist.
The lace overlay measures approximately 38 inches from the natural waist to the hem. The attached slip lining is shorter, typically hitting just below the knee on our 5’8″ fit model. The exact proportions will vary slightly based on your height, with petite frames seeing more lace extension below the slip.
Absolutely. The skirt layers beautifully with tights or leggings underneath for added warmth, and the midi slip provides enough coverage to make layering comfortable. Pair it with a fitted turtleneck or chunky knit sweater and ankle boots for a cool-weather look that still showcases the lace detail.
The lace is woven with a mid-weight construction that holds up well to normal wear. We haven’t seen issues with snagging during everyday activities like sitting, walking, or light movement. To protect the lace long-term, avoid rough surfaces and always wash the skirt in a mesh bag. If you do notice a loose thread, a quick snip with fabric scissors will prevent it from pulling further.
Since the midi slip provides full coverage through the hip and thigh area, any seamless underwear or shapewear you’d normally wear under a slip skirt will work perfectly. The slip fabric is opaque enough that you won’t see lines or texture from underneath. For the sheer lace section at the lower leg, bare skin or sheer hosiery both look great depending on the season and your preference.
